The British Windscreen Safety Council is a trade organisation made up from a panel of the UK's industry experts and leading companies who were instrumental in developing BS AU 242b:2022.
The panel is made up of industry experts (*Minimum of 10 years industry expertise) who specialise in *topics relating to both windscreen replacement and windscreen repair who can respond on half of the council directly back to BSI on matters raised by request.
The panel will consider diversity when selecting individuals to put forward as their nominated representative on a committee.
For over two years working as a nominated BSI panel, panel members came together to support the project through its development resulting in the publication of BS AU 242:2022 on 31st March 2022. The councils aim is to be British Standards go to authority for all automotive glazing questions as one of the recognised BSI committee authorities on vehicle glazing.
The Council offers a national accreditation register for all windscreen repair technicians and companies who are compliant and maintain compliance to BS AU 242b:2022
British Standards BS au 242:1994 and BS au 251:1998 as the dates suggest were outdated and not representative of windscreen industry advancements and new windscreen mounted safety technologies in 2022.
Claiming to work to and being compliant to British Standards has in the past been an unregulated approach. Buying equipment without training one day and being able to claim compliance to be BS au 242a: 1994 the next day, no questions asked. A photo copy of the British Standards and you were good to go is the old way, but not today!
This new approach with vehicle mounted safety technologies requires windscreen repairs to have the best possible repair outcomes to avoid unnecessary ADAS disturbance. This will only likely to be achieved by working to a defined standard.
Achieving the best windscreen repair outcomes will preserve windscreen safety and integrity. Equally important is the knowledge of the trained technician to know when and where not to repair following vehicle guidance from BS AU 242b:2022
All windscreen repair organisations and technicians will need to evidence as part of their training original learning material which will include original and authenticated BSI standards publications where photo copies will be prohibited.
